How we work
Get to know a day in the life of a Consilio expert.
How we got started.
How we think and act.
Day in the life of Lindsay Kilgore, Manager, GRO Training & Development
Which department do you sit in, and where are you based?
I am the manager of GRO Training & Development and am in the Operations Department. I work remotely out of my home office in Orlando, FL. I joined Consilio via the Advanced Discovery merger. I started at Advanced Discovery as their Salesforce Administrator in May 2016.
So, what is a typical day like for you?
I love my job because there is no typical day and no set agenda each day/week, aside from weekly team calls. There is a real autonomy to my role where my day-to-day focus is guided by the over-arching goal of ensuring that I successfully complete the following: all training initiatives ad-hoc training requests, GRO onboarding of new hires, quarterly GRO Town Hall preparations, and mid-year and end-of-year GRO Performance Reviews. I spend quite a bit of time working in PowerPoint, collaborating with speaker(s) of trainings, coordinating calendars to set up and run zoom calls, and cataloguing our trainings in SharePoint. I often feel like I’m back in school, where I’m tasked to research and write content that I have to present to ‘the class’. Still, I wouldn’t trade it for anything as there is nothing mundane about my day-to-day. I enjoy being able to collaborate with so many various individuals in our company.
What skills do you need to excel in your department?
Regimented time-management and organizational skills are a must to excel as well as a strong writing aptitude since you are creating training content day-in and day-out. The ability to be creative, think outside the box on how to engage and make training fun is important. You have to be comfortable presenting to others and exude an energetic and animated nature to draw your audience in and feel compelled to pay attention. Lastly, you have to have an innate appreciation for the details, making sure that all ‘i’s are dotted and ‘t’s are crossed so that each presentation is professional in appearance and delivery.
What is the most interesting part of your role at Consilio?
The most interesting part of my role is the early insight I’m able to have to anything new at Consilio. Any new hire, I’m one of the first to know and, maybe, even one of the first to welcome them to our team. Any new platform, service, process, etc., I’m one of the first to learn all about it so to brainstorm and collaborate on how best to present and teach to the greater GRO, I am so grateful that I can be so involved in so many various facets of the organization in this way.
What is the most challenging part of your role at Consilio?
The most challenging aspect of my role is hitting that sweet spot where the GRO leaves my trainings feeling like they not only understand the material presented, but they had a good time in the process – they felt engaged and motivated to go out and sell or want to learn more.
What has been your greatest accomplishment thus far?
Thus far, my greatest accomplishment in my role, which has only been a year, is having completed every single training initiative (and more) that I set out to do and within the timetable that was promised. The ability to formulate what you want to do, even if ambitious at the outset, and then just trust in yourself that you will get it done and then absolutely doing just that – it gives a sense of pride.
What advice would you offer a candidate applying for a role at Consilio?
Be ready to be a team player as there is no room for a silo mindset within a culture that truly values the excellence of working together and supporting each other. Consilio cultivates a strong work ethic and prepares you to be the best at what you do while equally fostering the importance of work/life balance. Consilio truly cares for each employee.
Which of Consilio’s True North values resonates the most for you?
This is a tough one, but I would say collaboration resonates the most with me as I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with so many colleagues in my role that has always served to strengthen my knowledge, skills, and appreciation for just the kind of company we are. We truly are better
Day in the life of Xavier Diokno, Senior Director, Data Analytics
Which department do you sit in and where are you based?
I work in the Data Analytics Department as a Senior Director and I am based out of Chicago. I have been with Consilio for 10 years.
So, what is a typical day like for you?
My typical day involves meetings both internal and external. Internal meetings are usually check-ins with members of my team to discuss current projects or issues. External meetings with clients usually involve working with the sales team to develop new business or advising existing clients on how to leverage analytics on their matters.
What skills do you need to excel in your department?
Several skills are needed to excel in the Analytics Department. A member of Analytics must be able to listen to a client and understand their needs and goals. Moreover, they should have the ability to think critically about a client’s issues and advise them on what analytics services would address their needs. They must also be strong problem solvers, have the ability to explain technical processes in an understandable way, and enjoy learning new technology.
What is the most interesting part of your role at Consilio?
The most interesting part of my role at Consilio is advising and educating clients on the application of technology within eDiscovery. This starts with empathy and viewing a matter from the client’s perspective, where they want to apply technology to help alleviate costs, but they don’t necessarily know what technology is available or how it can be applied to their matter.
What do you feel is the most challenging aspect of your role?
The most challenging aspect of my role is finding candidates that have the above skills and experience in the eDiscovery industry.
What has been your greatest accomplishment thus far?
When I first started in 2011, our analytics team was US-based only and consisted of eight members. I think my greatest accomplishment is that I’ve helped grow our team to 20 members and to have an international presence.
What advice would you offer a candidate applying for a role at Consilio?
Identify your strengths and support them with your past experiences. Talented individuals that leverage their strengths typically do well.
Which of Consilio’s True North values resonates the most for you?
Excellence – Excellence resonates most for me because it’s an expectation that I believe each of us at Consilio should place on ourselves. Excellence or perfection is rarely attainable, but when that is our standard of quality, regardless of whether the task is “client-facing” or in a support role, our work often exceeds client expectations.
Day in the life of Danielle Farhat Jabeen, Managing Director
Which department do you sit in, and where are you based?
My title is Managing Director and I oversee the Asia Pacific Region, and I sit in the GRO. For meetings with colleagues and clients, I often go into the New York Midtown office. However, I work remotely from my home in Brooklyn when I am not on the road to Asia or somewhere in the US! I have been working at Consilio for 2.5 years.
So, what is a typical day like for you?
Typically, my day starts very early so I can catch the tail end of the Asia Pacific time zone and assist the Asia GRO sales team with any inquiries due to go out at the end of their day for clients in China, Hong Kong and Japan. During the daytime in the U.S., I work with our UK and US GRO sales team supporting them with client calls, scoping opportunities, and assisting with providing cost estimates for Asia matters. For cross-border matters such as U.S. court litigation and government driven investigations, I have found that most of the decision makers on Asia matters, including both counsel and corporate legal departments, are based here in the U.S. Hence my move to the East Coast 5 years ago from Hong Kong. I am looped into various types of inquires which our U.S. sales team sources, where I speak with attorneys from varied practice groups on data privacy laws in Asia, as well as some of the challenges they may face while collecting data for US based legal proceedings. As we turn to the evenings in the U.S., I hold weekly one-on-one calls with my Asia team as well as our team pipeline call. I send out follow up emails before bed and then wake up to do it all over again!
What skills do you need to excel in your department?
I think it is important to have a problem-solving approach to this role, to be patient with clients and your colleagues, to adapt in being creative with solutions, and finally to pivot to clients requests on short notice.
What do you think is the most interesting part of your role?
It is amazing that one hour I will be scoping for a matter in China, the next in Taiwan and the next in Hong Kong! Given we can ramp up and support clients in numerous locations throughout Asia, on a weekly basis I see different types of projects for different countries in the region.
What do you feel is the most challenging aspect of your role?
I would say juggling different time zones in terms of calls and client requests, where there are different time zones in Asia (Japan compared to China), as well as Europe and the U.S. Sometimes I have calls in the middle of the night, very early or then very late in the day. However, this is the nature of working for a global company! Despite the lockdown on travel due to COVID-19, I have been able to work with colleagues and clients on the other side of the world with few challenges!
What has been your greatest accomplishment thus far?
I would say cultivating one of our biggest global client relationships and providing Asia eDiscovery expertise to close business with them in China. This is the first time Consilio as a company is doing business with them in Asia and it has been awesome driving this effort!
What advice would you offer a candidate applying for a role at Consilio?
If you want to make a commitment to working here, then be prepared to work hard and show us your potential. As a company we are prepared to invest in you and commit our time in supporting your growth, so let’s rise to new heights together.
Which of Consilio’s True North values resonates the most for you?
From our True North values, I would say Vision resonates with me the most because I joined Consilio with the goal to further establish our Asia Pacific practice, deepen our relationships with clients based locally and those based abroad with needs in Asia, and to contribute to expanding our global reach. It is truly exciting to be a part of a company that shares this vision, where department heads and colleagues share their views and commit to further developing our resources, which continues to strengthen our presence in these growing economies. I cannot wait to see what we achieve in 2021 and beyond!
Day in the life of Greg Cook, Senior Director, Digital Forensics & Expert Services
What is your job title, and which department are you in?
Senior Director, Digital Forensics & Expert Services
Which office are you based out of and how long have you been with the company?
I work remotely out of the San Francisco Bay Area and I have worked with Consilio for 6.5 years.
So, what is a typical day like for you?
As I live on the West Coast, my day typically starts early with a look at email traffic to see if there are pressing issues to address as the Eastern and Central time zones are in full gear. I am responsible for managing the U.S. based Forensics practice and spend much of my day in direct contact with the Forensics Team Leaders. In addition to our DFES Operations Team addressing project status, staffing for new matters, providing estimates, escalations, guidance, and working on DFES Leadership initiatives. In my role, I am also actively involved with supporting the GRO, interacting with the PM teams, Data Operations, and Billing/Finance.
What skills do you need to excel in your department?
You need an organizational and consultative mindset, superior soft-skills/professional demeanor, patience, curiosity, and problem-solving drive, and a heap of technical training and experience.
What do you think is the most interesting part of your role?
100% the people I get to work with. I love working with each individual on our team to help them be the best professionals they can be and help them achieve what they want in their careers. There is nothing more satisfying than knowing you have helped those around you.
What is the most challenging part of your role at Consilio?
We are striving to deliver a work product that is 100% accurate. Great baseball players can strike out six times out of 10 at-bats and go into the Hall of Fame. However, the DFES team has little margin for error as an entire case can hinge on even the smallest of mistakes or oversights. Combine the required level of accuracy with the constant pressure to “get things done yesterday” and often do the work with the client watching over your shoulder, and it creates an incredible amount of stress on the team. A challenging part of that job is to help manage that stress for the team and our clients.
What has been your greatest accomplishment thus far?
It was helping build a world-class forensics team at Consilio that has an amazing culture.
What advice would you offer a candidate applying for a role at Consilio?
Be a good person, work hard, and good things will happen for you.
Which of Consilio’s True North values resonates the most for you?
Most definitely “People.” That is where it all starts and ends for me.
Hire the right people, develop, support, guide and reward. If you do that, Excellence, Agility, Passion, Vision, and Collaboration will all take care of themselves.
